Chen Hung-Hsiang, ASUS

In 2008, Hung-Hsiang moved to Singapore to head a new strategic design centre for ASUS. His philosophy of integrating a trident of seemingly dissimilar yet mutually complementary drivers of design innovation—people, technology and business—has led him to successfully establish and lead a multi-disciplinary team adept at research, design and development methods to explore strategic opportunities that bolster the global design philosophy and brand position of ASUS.

Since its inception, Hung-Hsiang and the Singapore team have played a pivotal role in the innovation think-tank of ASUS. Two years on, this satellite team has consistently delivered cutting-edge concepts based on market insights to inspire and motivate the company’s future design directions. To achieve this, Hung-Hsiang places equal emphasis on the team’s three core functions—design research, industrial design and user experience design. Every project calls on the expertise of each team, creating a cross-functional collaborative model which ensures that information and inspiration are relevant to the team and company at all levels during design and product development.

Inform. Inspire. Motivate. Moving the creative process along these three tracks on every project, Hung-Hsiang keeps his team focused on a common direction in spite of their functional differences, so that their creative output is always consistent and relevant to tomorrow’s demanding consumers, fast-paced technological advancement and competitive 3C industry. Only then will the trident drivers of innovation be amalgamated into every design process, keeping the team ahead in technological know-how, nimble on business considerations and connected with people and society.
